MI Newsletter 18th July 2008

Essential Reading for Marketing & Business Professionals

Friday July 18th 2008

Insights in this issue:
* Recession, what recession?
* Tapping the Power of Social Networking
* GOOGLE "has the best reputation"
* The 5th Annual Privacy & Data Protection UK 2008 Conference

It seems likely that the UK is slipping
into recession - but is this bad news for
you? We look at how you can still make hay
with you marketing budget. Social Networking
is much talked about but little used as a
marketing tool in the UK. The latest US
conference suggests that it can be highly
effective for virtually any product in any
area.
Google is the most admired company
in the US - having knocked Microsoft off this
particular perch. Interestingly two of the
most ethical companies in the US - Johnson &
Johnson and 3M both feature in the top 10.
Perhaps consumers are tiring of companies
that take advantage of our goodwill - an
accusation that can fairly, in our view, be
aimed at Microsoft.

MI Newsletter 1st July 2008

Essential Reading for Marketing & Business ProfessionalsTuesday July 1st 2008Insights in this issue:
* European adspend will hold up well in 2008 predicts ZenithOptimedia
* The decline and fall of the Call-Centre
* MDM - Is it yet another meaningless acronym - a response
* The 5th Annual Privacy & Data Protection UK 2008 Conference

The latest ZenithOptimedia survey
concludes that adspend in UK&Europe is still
growing faster than the economy as a whole.
Looks like doom & gloom is more than
mis-placed. We report on the latest
DimensionData Call-Centre survey which makes
grim reading if you work for a company that
has one!
Our last edition featured an
article on MDM which provioked considerable
response. So this week we have handed over
the newsletter to one of respondents - Mike
Hudgell of specialists, Evaxyx.

MI Newsletter 17th June 2008

Essential Reading for Marketing & Business ProfessionalsTuesday June 17th 2008Insights in this issue:
* Marketers Remain Upbeat Despite Economic Slowdown
* MDM - Is it yet another meaningless acronym?
* Do European Consumers bow to on-line influence?

The latest CIM survey says we marketers
are an upbeat lot - we expect our companies
to do better than the norm and our budgets to
edge up in 2008 as we take advantage of the
travails of others! Do you agree? It is
certainly true that the best companies
continue to invest in marketing during a
downturn, knowing that they'll get more "bang
for their buck" because of the diminution of
competitve pressures.

Also this week we take a look at another
acronym - MDM (don't ask!) and another piece
of what we consider to be "spresearch"
(Spurious PR research) - that
is PR, thinly disguised as research. Take a
look, see what you think!

* 5Th UK Privacy and CRM Conference, London, 24/25 June 2008

We've all heard the term "conspicuous

According to new research they spend
proportionally more on visible signs of
success than the successful do!
You can

marketing ideas, find out what what we found
in one London bar.
