In Memorium - Harry Patch 17/06/1898 - 25/07/2009

Harry Patch, the sole remaining survivor of the First World War trenches died on Saturday. A survivor of Paschendale, he described war in 2007 as "organised murder and nothing else". A modest man, he didn't talk about the War at all until he reached 100. Harry became the oldest first-time author when he co-wrote The Last Fighting Tommy in 2007. Now there is no-one left who recalls first-hand the sacrifices the young men of Europe made during the insanity of 1914-18. Here's hoping that we ALL remember Harry's words and those of Winston Churchill - "better jaw, jaw, jaw, than war, war, war.  We own you a debt Harry, and all the millions who fought and died because our politicians failed us.
